Myagi at hush, victoria, tonight // Posted Jun 28, 2008

Hey hey vancovuer islanders (or tintrepid travellers from elsewhere around the globe)....I'm at hush tonight doing my sweaty rave mosh pit thing.....hope to see you out!
------
From Hush's Website
------
MYAGI (a.k.a SOLE CLAW) (a.k.a. Andrew Mavor)..... For a lot of young artists in today's music scene, living up to the expectations of presumptuous critics and finicky fans can be an impossible task. The pressures that go with being named a break out talent can be enough to drown budding musicians after first seeding. Enter Canadian producer and performer Myagi, who has been touted as the "Next Don of North American Breaks." His tracks have appeared on compilations by UK Break Beat heavy weights Plump DJs, American hit makers Crystal Method and received plays by B-Boy legend Fatboy Slim. All of this attention has vaulted him into the genres elite. What I found out in a recent interview is that Myagi has coolly brushed aside any pressure and let his natural ability to write songs, whether they be Cheeky Dance Floor Smashes or Funked Out Grooves for a Sunday afternoon, reign supreme. When asked about the origin of his most popular moniker, Myagi, Andrew is blunt; "Karate Kid," he deadpans referring to the popular character Mr. Myagi in the cult eighties flick. He then continues, giving us insight into his early musical roots.
"I was in a high school band, and that was the name we chose. I got tired of working with other people so I started buying synthesizers, a couple drum machines and started working on electronic music." Influenced by the early works of electronic pioneers Meat Beat Manifesto, Freddy Fresh and Fatboy Slim, Myagi later resolved "this is the kind of stuff I want to write," figuring he started writing his solo material as far back as 1996.

Myagi RmX- Myagi comes at us with his classic full on Breakbeat sound on this one. With a similar yet still "myagi as hell" take on this tune, its full of massive bass and that classic myagi driving feel! He really gets the ball rollin on this tune by his use of forward moving synth work and anticipation building sequencing. This is a tune for all the crowd rockers in the building!!!!! After the 2nd breakdown.....its full on breaks goodness with NOTHING to spare!!!

My Culture (Myagi Remix)

and now for something a little different.

this is rave house. seriously. rave. house. <3. i like the intro, and the underworld-esque synth line that ends up morphing into this big giant ass fingering bassline. i have to say he does a really good job of keeping the same vibe as the original, even though he went in a completely different direction. im willing to bet if you play this outside at night time, you win for the evening. the main break is just an all out rave acid squelchfest <3<3<3. really digging it.

3 Years of Sunrise // Posted Jun 20, 2008

Well, after significant road testing and amazing reactions all round, the the first ep off my album "3 years of sunrise" is just about ready to roll.

Featuring remixes from Malente and Rebel Sketchy, the "Album Sampler 1: Shapeshifter ep" is a serious cut - pounding rock n' roll electro from Malente and rolling b-boy breaks from Rebel Sketchy.

Look for it soon!

Myagi & Pete Tong? // Posted Feb 22, 2008

Hey guys!

Through a very chance myspace messaging encounter, Pete Tong has picked up on my new tune 7Seven7 and is using it on his weekly tv spot "bedroom bedlam" on www.fasttrax.tv

if you could go and check out the site, theres a really fast registration process and then you can vote for the next weeks winner (theres only three) - and if you like 7seven7 and want to vote for it, that would be great!

I didn't know anything about this show as im not normally part of the "housier / progressive" realm, and I'm not normally one to beg for votes, but this is a pretty cool situation here so any help out would be greatly appreciated.

Update From OZ! // Posted Jul 06, 2007

Hello all! I'm in Sydney at the moment chilling at Dopamines place, figured I'd put up a couple quick bits of news -

first off, I've just finished my remix of a classic Crystal Method release on City Of Angels...."High roller" was a standout tune on their breakout album "Vegas" and I'm stoked to have done a remix to be included on the Vegas 10 Year Anniversary Double CD coming out this Sept!

Also - Giorgio Maurader has been included on General Midi's Y4K cd out now on Distinctive!

More to come :)

What Comes Next? // Posted Apr 10, 2007

Hello all!

Things have been very hush hush in the Myagi HQ, which is really just a laptop, a bunch of credit card recipts and a series of chicken bones.

It's been a very big year for me, which I'm eternally grateful for...

The last 12 months have seen me embarass myself in some of the finest clubs in the world, in cities such as London, Hong Kong, Toronto, Sydney, San Fracisco, Guangzhou, Tainan, Melbourne, Vancouver, Paris, Bangkok, Montreal, Melbourne, Seoul and Moncton New Brunswick.

My move to the west coast sets in officially today and in a bit of a sneak peek of whats been cooking lately, I've posted 2 tunes off my upcoming "What Comes Next?" EP, which will run delve into non dancefloor chilled out music... think Mouse On Mars meets Nightmares On Wax and you're in the right territory...check out "Sweet" and "Heads N Tails" for a sample at http://www.myspace.com/myagisoleclaw

In the more harcore breaks territory, Giorgio Maurader has been snapped up for a major comp that will come out fairly soon, and there are a couple more things in the works as well including 2 remixes I'm completing for some of the most reknowned artists (read legendary) in the world. Very excited here.

Plus - I'm getting married, which is the biggest news of all! :)

Stay well and have fun.

Andrew

Stopgap update // Posted Mar 10, 2007

Well, it's been a long time since an update, and I'm going to hold off on spilling news now, but basically, within about a month, I'll have very large glut of crap to pat my own back about, and I'll share more then.

In the meantime, apologies to Sao Paulo for the hellish missing of my show last weekend - after flight delays and cancellations due to blizzard like conditions in Montreal, we've had no choice but to reschedule for may with an expanded Brazilian tour, but more on that later.

In the meantime, have fun and spay and neuter your pets!

Andrew
